No. 12-seed High Point upset No. 5-seed Wisconsin 83-82 in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tournament at Moda Center on Tuesday.
High Point guard Chase Johnston scored the game-winning basket with 11 seconds on a breakaway layup after Wisconsin guard Nick Boyd missed a layup that would have put the Badgers up 84-81. High Point guard Rob Martin hauled in the rebound and fired downcourt to a streaking Johnston.

The game-winning layup was Johnston's first two-point make all-season long. Johnston nailed multiple clutch 3-pointers down the stretch, scoring 14 points off the bench and going 4-6 from behind the arc.
Martin, who assisted on the game-winning layup, led the Panthers in scoring with 23 points while also dishing 10 assists. Owen Aquino (11 points), Terry Anderson (15 points) and Cam'Ron Fletcher (14 points) were the other players who scored in double-figures for High Point.

The victory over Wisconsin is the first-ever NCAA tournament victory for High Point in their second-ever tournament appearance. Last year was the Panthers' first-ever appearance.
Boyd and John Blackwell led the way for Wisconsin in the loss. Boyd scored 27 points with five rebounds and six assists while Blackwell scored 22 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Rapp added 12 points.

For Wisconsin, this is their second loss in three years in the first round as a No. 5 seed. Wisconsin lost to James Madison 72-61 in the first round in 2024. Last year, Wisconsin lost to BYU 91-89 in the second round.
The last time Wisconsin made it out of the second round was 2017, when they lost in the Sweet Sixteen.

作为广东重点打造的年度群众体育IP，2026年广东省城市篮球联赛（“粤BA”）即将热血启幕，揭幕战计划于3月举行。
自2015年创立至今，广东省男子篮球联赛已点燃全省民间篮球热潮，在此基础上全新升级的广东省城市篮球联赛，将更深度聚焦群众参与、本土情怀与青少年培育。
这场升级不仅是对赛事规模的拓展，更是对篮球文化的深耕。全新亮相的粤BA，将力争打造一场集观赏性、参与性、竞技性与经济活力于一体的南粤文体新名片，激活体育消费新场景，为城市发展注入新动能，实现赛事流量变旅游留量，竞技激情燃经济新机的良性循环。
根据竞赛规程，本届粤BA分为东、西两区展开角逐。其中西区汇聚广州、珠海、佛山、中山、江门、阳江、湛江、茂名、肇庆、云浮10支代表队，东区汇聚清远、韶关、惠州、东莞、深圳、河源、梅州、潮州、揭阳、汕头、汕尾11支代表队，小组赛阶段采用主客场单循环赛制，让热爱在家门口落地，让较量在主场升温。
足球联赛“一城一主场”
而作为全省最高水平的业余足球赛事之一，2026年广东省城市足球超级联赛计划于4月至11月举办，实行一城一主场制。该赛事将成为展示各地城市体育风采、推动足球文化交流的重要平台，通过足球运动凝聚城市精神。
全省21个市将各派1支代表队参赛，球队以城市命名，一城一主场。联赛为11人制男子足球联赛，分两个阶段进行，第一阶段为常规赛，第二阶段为淘汰赛。
本届联赛不仅是竞技舞台，更将力求打造“赛事+文旅”融合平台，串联各地文化特色，拉动体育消费，展示南粤城市形象。目前，潮州、珠海等多地已启动运动员招募选拔工作，汇聚本土足球人才，力争在赛事中展现城市风采，让足球运动成为联结广东21城的精神纽带。
